Spare wheels are not included in the inspection,
but if a defect is seen the owner should be advised.
In considering whether the original strength of a
wheel has been significantly reduced the tester must decide
if the wheel is rendered unsafe.
The maximum allowable rim distortion limits are as
follows
Lateral (ie run out or buckling)
(a) For steel rims 4mm
(b) For aluminium alloy rims 2mm (cast or fabricated)
Eccentricity:
(a) For all types of rim 3mm
Measurements should be taken from a machined surface
in the case of cast aluminium alloy rims.
This inspection also applies to the wheel
attached to the side car.
Particular attention should be paid when assessing
stainless steel spokes for cracks

Examine the condition of the wheels, (see information column)
2. Spin the wheels and look for buckling and eccentricity.
3. Check the security of the wheels.

deliberate modification, inadequate repair, excessive corrosion,
damage or fracture of a road wheel which significantly reduces the
original strength (see information column)
b. a spoke which is missing, cracked, excessively loose bent or
corroded.
c. loose or missing rivets or bolts in built-up wheels
2. An excessively distorted or eccentric bead rim. (see information
column).

a. loose or missing wheel nuts, studs or bolts
b. an insecure wheel.
